MANOR INVESTS HALF A MILLION POUNDS TO COMMEMORATE LOST TRAWLERMEN AT ST ANDREW'S QUAY DEVELOPMENT

Manor Property Group, the owners of the former Lord Line building and surrounding development site at St Andrew's Quay, is supporting the local Royal Antediluvian Order of the Buffalo (RAOB) known as The Buffs; whose memorial to the lost trawlers and fishermen of the city is sited at the outer bullnose.

Manor has presented detailed plans to officers of Hull City Council to include a shelter at the outer bullnose and has been working with the RAOB to preserve the existing memorial within a refurbished surrounding area. A larger 'contemplation garden' is planned for the inner bullnose as part of the overall design and plans for the site. This will create a larger permanent memorial to the men and the ships that were lost from the city.

Ian Kemp from RAOB explained: "We are delighted Manor has shown such support and regard for the memorial; the company has demonstrated it is very keen to show a due respect and commemoration for all the men and their families who currently have nowhere to go to remember their loved ones some of whom died in such tragic circumstances.

"Manor helped us to hold our annual Lost Trawlermen's service on Sunday 24th July this year at the memorial at the bullnose; we had been unable to hold it at the site in recent years because it was unsafe for the public, so we were delighted by the support they have shown us and will be supporting their plans for the whole area. The Buffs have written to the council showing our support for the forthcoming planning application."

Detailed plans are currently being developed for the site and Manor Director Robert Lane said: "Manor is acutely aware of the importance of the site to the heritage of the city and we are delighted the RAOB will be working as part of the consultation team to create a public memorial and make a real difference to families of lost trawlermen."

Manor Sponsors RAOB annual Christmas lunch

Manor is continuing its support of the RAOB by sponsoring their annual Christmas lunch on 7th December 2011 at the Masonic Hall on Beverley Road in Hull. The company will also be awarding a Senior Citizen of the Year Cup.

The cup will be awarded to the most outstanding senior citizen RAOB members who have worked to uphold the work and traditions of the order.

The Christmas lunch will see 97 RAOB members enjoy a traditional lunch including a raffle to win one of ten hampers provided by the Earl Kitchener RAOB Lodge from Beverley Road Social Club, a free game of bingo and drink.

The RAOB is a philanthropic and charitable organisation which supports local activity appropriate for the needs of the community in which they work and live.
